When I landed my first journalism job at HR Dive in 2018 at HR Dive, I knew next to nothing about human resources. Five years of reporting and writing later, I can now say that I’m no longer a newbie to HR.
Compliance was my main focus at HR Dive, and I learned about the nation’s most important employment laws while staying on top of the more molecular developments happening in our country’s courts. My columns about employment law soared in popularity, and the series was a finalist in the 2020 NEAL awards. I wrote about other topics too, covering everything from pet insurance to the challenge of hybrid work.
After several years with HR Dive, I was ready for a new challenge: self-employment. I launched my own business, KC Writes LLC, and kept doing what I knew how to do: write. I now create content marketing for HR-related brands, focusing on employment law, talent acquisition, workplace culture and a whole host of other topics.
I became a full-time freelance writer to have more time to do what I love. When I’m not working, I enjoy reading stories with my daughters, taking bike rides with my husband and listening to audiobooks by myself. I love to cook and sing, preferably at the same time. Someday, I hope to read my kids a storybook with my name listed as the author.
